Right after I made the executive decision on Friday night to go watch Brenham’s Chase Wellbrock pitch, the skies opened at Reckling Park and put the brakes on my attempt to watch any live baseball. But it afforded the opportunity to monitor some of the series across the state.
Had I played my cards right, I could’ve made it to Elkins High School in time to watch a little Memorial-Brazoswood, endure a second rain delay, and then see Tyler Green singlehandedly keep Brazoswood alive with a complete-game 2-1 win in which he hit the solo home run that gave the Bucs the margin of victory.
Oh well…
As it was, I got so many late-night back-to-back tweets from the Houston Chronicle’s Sam Khan, I thought John McClain must have hijacked his Twitter account.
Saturday will be busy around the state, with at least one game to be played in 28 series. Meanwhile, we offers congratulations to the teams who have already qualified for the regional finals next week–
- 1A: Blue Ridge, Cayuga, La Pryor
- 2A: Presidio, Aubrey
- 3A: Lubbock Estacado, Pleasant Grove, Argyle
- 4A: Wichita Falls Rider
- 5A: Klein
