The Rankings Are In
The long wait is over—high school football is officially back across Texas. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football has released its Week 1 rankings, and the tables below highlight where the state’s top programs stand entering the season.
All eyes in Class 6A are on Southlake Carroll, the consensus preseason favorite for the Division II title. Houston fans will note that while only North Shore and Katy cracked the Top 10, the rankings from 11–20 are dominated by Southeast Texas powers–Summer Creek, Ridge Point, Atascocita, Dickinson, Pearland and The Woodlands–suggesting this could be one of the most competitive years ever in the region.
And with Cy-Fair ISD’s Bridgeland and Cypress Ranch opening at 24 and 25, respectively, the Greater Houston area claims 40% of the Top 25 teams in Class 6A.

My First Season with Texan Live
This year also marks a change for me personally. I’ll be on the call with Texan Live, Dave Campbell’s official streaming network for high school football. It was not easy moving away from good friends and colleagues, but it’s an exciting next step in my broadcasting journey that will allow me to stay a little closer to home, and I couldn’t ask for a better way to kick things off than with a pair of intriguing Week 1 matchups.

Thursday Night: Aldine MacArthur vs. Cypress Ridge (Pridgeon Stadium)
Two programs looking to take a step forward in 2025 square off in the opener. Aldine MacArthur, under Coach Blake Ware, returns six starters on offense and eight on defense, led by linebacker Xavier Raygoza and tight end/defensive end Elijah McDonald. Cypress Ridge, meanwhile, is trying to climb back into playoff contention with a balanced roster and several young prospects ready to make an impact. Both schools have endured some tough seasons, but Week 1 provides a chance to set a new tone.

Friday Night: Cy-Fair at Klein Cain (Klein Memorial Stadium)
Friday’s game is a matchup of two playoff-minded squads. Cy-Fair, one of the most consistent public programs in Houston, brings its trademark physicality and depth into 2025. Klein Cain, meanwhile, continues to build on recent momentum, highlighted by offensive firepower that could make the Hurricanes a dangerous district contender. This game has the feel of a measuring stick for both teams—one that could carry playoff implications down the road.
If you love Texas high school football, I’d love the company, so you’re invited to watch and listen along at Dave Campbell’s Texan Live.
Looking Ahead
From Southlake Carroll’s title chase to the depth of Houston’s contenders, the 2025 season promises no shortage of storylines. And with opening week upon us, the real answers will begin to take shape under the Friday night lights. For my part, I’m thrilled to bring these games to you on Texan Live and can’t wait to see how this season unfolds.
